July 2, 2021. The City of Townsend extends its gratitude to all who had a part in making this event possible. A special thanks goes out to Ron Brewer and Ron Kirby, the two Vietnam veterans who first proposed the idea to the Townsend Board of Commissioners. Also, we thank Vietnam Veteran Jerome Moon, State Representative who, along with State Senator Art Swann, walked the bill through the State Legislature.
The dedication ceremony was held at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center, Townsend Tennessee. John Becker, WBIR News Anchor, Honorary Member Vietnam Veterans of America welcome the overflowing center. Delta Company, 4th Marine Division presented the Colors and Keynote speaker was Marine Lt. Gen. (retired) R. A. Tiebout.
