June 12, 2017 Sweetwater, Tennessee
Celebrate Recovery Community (CRC), which is free and open to the public, kicked off on June 12th at First Baptist Church Sweetwater.
CRC offers weekly services to support people with emotional struggles, relational issues, addictions, or any thoughts and behaviors that interfere with a joyful life.
Celebrate Recovery (CR) is an international program that has years of success and for the first time is being offered in Sweetwater. Although CRC is in Sweetwater, this program is a true community effort with volunteers and participants from all over Monroe County and surrounding areas. This is an ongoing program based on Christian principles as applied to the 12 Steps and the 8 Beatitudes. The only requirement is a desire to come and listen. The groups are led by trained leaders who offer a safe, confidential, and positive place to participate with other people looking for healing. We are regular people looking for help with hurts, habits, or hang-ups. There is no financial or commitment obligation.
Monroe County Health Council and Vet to Vet Tennessee (V2VT) along with Al & Jackie North from CR Tennessee provided the wherewithal to help make this new CRC begin. Numerous members of various churches have collaborated since October 2016. V2VT is not only a partner in the creation of the CRC but has supported the mission with financial support. “This a great opportunity for our justice involved veterans from the 10th Judicial District (Bradley, Polk, McMinn and Monroe Counties) to receive a faith-based recovery program.” Veterans Court Judge Dwaine Thomas and Monroe County Sheriff support the CRC and honored to have the CRC as the newest recovery program in their community.
Pastor Frank Crawford of the First Baptist Church is the gracious host of the CRC and invites other churches to participate.
Celebrate Recovery Community meets every Monday evening at First Baptist Church Sweetwater beginning June 12th. The program starts with fellowship and refreshments at 6pm, worship at 6:30pm with Biblically-based teachings and music, and small groups at 7:45pm offering support based on specific issues. These small groups are divided into men’s and women’s groups and are safe places to give and receive positive support for individual needs.
Public speaker, author, and TV producer, Tom Baker, was the guest speaker on opening night. Tom is author of the book, “One Dog’s Faith”, a book that describes how Tom’s dog helped him trust in God and overcome chronic worrying.
