A month ago, Vet to Vet Tennessee decided to do another Worth It performance. A week ago, we obtained a donor, an acceptance of a new director, and a new venue. And we will have the same playwright, same producer, and many of the original cast members. We were asked by the new director to forward him a list of cast members we thought were interested in performing in the new Worth It play. We were ready to contact the cast members when we received a phone call that one of our friends died on June 26, 2022 from suicide.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear friend, council & cast member Dr. Andrew “Drew” Michael Sexton. Drew was a light in this world, and now we need to continue shining his light by carrying it within us in our own lives.
Drew wrote the following the day after Worth It play:
“It has been such a privilege and inspiration to me to be able to witness so much talent and hard work come together to make this show happen. Seeing it go from that first raw script reading, through all of Tonya’s brilliant direction and fine tuning during rehearsals, to the show presented last night is something that is familiar to most of you as the normal artistic process, but it absolutely blew me away! The energy and talent and commitment of the actors and performers, especially our many so gifted younger cast members, kept me in a perpetual state of awe. I would imagine each of you would say that you have been forever changed with each production you’ve ever done. Without knowing it, and more than you could possibly know, you have all been such an enormous blessing in my life and brought me closer to God at a time when I needed it.
I also want to wish each of you a blessed life. I know each of you will go on to do many more amazing things! ” Dr. Andrew “Drew” Sexton. November 11, 2019
Merciful God, hear the cries of our grief, for you know the anguish of our hearts. It is beyond our understanding and more than we can bear.
Drew was a physician at the Knoxville Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He will always be remembered for his clever sense of humor and infectious smile.
Andrew was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret “Peggy” Sexton.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his son: Zelan Sexton; daughters: Emily Sexton, and Maya Sexton; his father: Donal J. Sexton Jr.; a sister: Allison Snyder and her partner, Don Bateman; a nephew: Tatum Snyder; a companion: Annie Malone; and close friend: Katie Wood.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Rose Funeral & Cremation – Mann, 6200 Kingston Pike. Drew will be laid to rest in Graceland Memorial Gardens in Afton.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Andrew’s memory to Young Williams Animal Center at https://www.young-williams.org/support; or the Disabled American Veterans at https://secure.dav.org/site/Donation.
