Vet to Vet Tennessee surprised judicial assistant Beverly Powell last Wednesday. Powell, a normally silent figure in the background of Monroe County Veterans Court, was honored with a prestigious Joseph “JL” Tucker Memorial Award in recognition of her continued support and work promoting rehabilitation for justice-involved veterans. “You have no greater advocate on your behalf than Beverly,” Veterans Court Judge Dwaine Thomas said. “She has always been a strong veterans advocate.”
Oh, what a surprise! Beverly Powell, Administrative Assistant to Monroe County General Sessions/Veterans Court Judge Dwayne B. Thomas, was overwhelmed as she received Vet to Vet Tennessee's Joseph "JL" Tucker Memorial Award before the Veterans Court Commencement Ceremony began on May 20, 2026.
Beverly has been with Judge Thomas since his election years ago and has been one of the reasons our Veterans Court works so well. Not only is the award well deserved, but it is also long overdue. “Virtus Fides Honor,” meaning Courage, Faith, Honor, accurately describes Beverly.
Beverly received the award from Vet to Vet TN’s Award Chair, Rob Meyers, and 2026 recipient Don Davis, Vet to Vet TN’s at-large board member.
Beverly, we are blessed to have you as a wonderful and proud partner. Thank you. God Bless.
