January 10, 2015 is the one year anniversary of the Knox County Veterans Treatment (VTC). The first justice involved veteran was transferred to the Knox County VTC from the Memphis VTC on 1-10-14.
The first veteran graduated the program on September 10, 2014.
The Knoxville Regional Veterans Mental Health Council, Vet to Vet TN and the council’s East TN VTC Committee has been helping Judicial Districts in Tennessee since May 2014. Currently the committee is working with over 25 counties throughout Tennessee including 20 in East Tennessee.
To celebrate the VTC movement in Tennessee and the first anniversary of the Knox County VTC, John Becker, WBIR Channel 10’s host of Service and Sacrifice interviewed 4 Judges from 4 Judicial District in East Tennessee.
Hon. O. Duane Slone, Fourth Judicial District serving Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson and Sevier counties with a veteran population of 17,694.
Hon. Chuck Cerny, Sixth Judicial District serving Knox County with a veteran population of 34,716.
Hon. E. Shayne Sexton, Eighth Judicial District serving Fentress, Campbell, Claiborne, Scott and Union counties with a veteran population of 9,635.
Hon. Dwaine Thomas, Monroe County (Tenth Judicial District serving Bradley, McMinn, Monroe and Polk counties with a veteran population of 17,961.
As of 1-08-15 14 East Tennessee Counties has VTC services available to over 80,000 veterans who live in the 14 Eastern Tennessee Counties. The committee is working with 6 other East TN Counties and hope to have at 20 more counties by the end of 2015!
