November 11, 2018 First Baptist Church Maryville, TN.
“Coming Home” play, written and produced by Tonya Lee Stoutt-Brown, was attended by almost 1,000 on Veterans Day.
Details: A young soldier returns home from World War II to find his country church in comical disarray. As he struggles to find peace, he learns that you can never go so far away that you can’t come home in your heart.
Tonya asked Vet to Vet Tennessee to support the play and advised VTVT that all of the donations from the play would be donated to VTVT to support their suicidal prevention programs.. VTVT received over $3,000.00! Very generous audience. Click here to view the Playbill. [read more=”Click here to Read More” less=”Read Less“]
VTVT provided mental health support before, during and after the play. Numerous individuals identified themselves or someone they knew as suicidal. One veteran was triggered by some of the scenes of the play but was identified, comforted and supported by the VTVT team.
Don & Sheryn Davis, Patricia Calabro, Martina & Ed Junod provided VTVT’s veteran support and information about suicide prevention.
“I have gotten SO much feedback – not just about the play, but that veterans felt honored. I know Vet to Vet TN was a huge part of that. So, again, thanks. :)” TSB
The funds from the play will be used to create a similar play to “Coming Home.” The new play’s theme is youth suicide prevention created and played by youth students and supported by theater professionals and adult volunteers. Once completed, the play will be made available free to all of Military Chaplains Association’s Veterans/Military Friendly Congregations. One title suggestion is “You’re Worth It.”
If you are interested in joining our theatrical committee, please contact us below. Our goal is to have the play ready to perform by Veterans Day 2019 and will be hosted one of MCA’s VMFC Rio Revolution Church in Maryville Tennessee.
