The 917 Society is providing each Tennessee 8th grader their very own pocket Constitution in honor of September 17th, Constitution Day!
Fundraising efforts have begun for our next distribution in celebration of Constitution Day on September 17, 2018 in order to provide 85,000 pocket Constitutions to the next class of 8th graders in Tennessee. Our September 17th Constitution Day Celebration and fundraising event will be co-sponsored by Professional Educators of Tennessee.
We are excited to announce our partnership with Vet to Vet Tennessee (VTVT) for helping to provide Constitutions for Blount and Monroe County classrooms. [read more=”Click here to Read More” less=”Read Less”] VTVT is a non-profit whose goals are to stop Veteran suicide, homelessness and incarceration through PTSD awareness, intervention, prevention and resolution training; mental health first aid; peer support; with federal, state and local agencies; and mentoring. VTVT was made aware of this program by Amvets Post 22 Commander Mark Frederick. Thanks to the 917 Society and Amvets Post 22, VTVT agreed to co-sponsor the Blount County event. One week after partnering with Amvets Post 22, VTVT voted to co-sponsor the 917 Society program with Monroe County DAV #93. On Monday, July 16, 2018, VTVT and the 917 Society agreed to be partners.
This September 17 will mark the 231th anniversary of the signing of our U.S. Constitution in 1787. The 917 Society’s ultimate mission is to reach 4.5 million students nationally, with Tennessee being the first state reaching all 8th grade students in 2018 — including public, private and homeschooled 8th graders.
The 917 Society is a non-partisan non-profit 501(c)3 educational organization providing free constitutions and programs to educators to celebrate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day on September 17 each year. We receive no state or federal funds and exist with donations from Businesses, Corporations and Individuals. We received a GOLD STAR rating for transparency for 2018 from GuideStar and are approved by our State Board of Education.
