We developed a Veteran PTSD Law Enforcement training program in Blount and Union Counties; a total of 255 Sheriff Office law enforcement personnel completed our training in June 2014.  Captain Burchfield contacted a member of our East Tennessee Veterans Treatment Court Committee requesting training for the road officer of the Blount County Sheriff's Office (BCSO).

At the end of the panel discussion, KCSO agreed to accept our Veteran PTSD/TBI law enforcement training program as part of their annual mandatory training requirements.  Beginning March 6, 2015 our committee will provide the training program for 8 weeks.  The class size will range from 50-100 attendees.  Through lecture and class participation, the attendees will be able to recognize presenting symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and respond appropriately.

Captain Anderson suggested we include staff of the KCSO correction department.  The committee  agreed with Captain Anderson agreed and will  provide a specific training for KCSO correction personnel.

The Council provides the training for free!  We coordinated with the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs, The Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission,  the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network, the Knox County Veterans Service Office, Knox County VTC, the TN Director of Recovery & Resiliency and the Phoenix Arizona VTC in order to expand our training program throughout TN.
